The History
Two centuries passed after the atomic war destroyed the world.
Computers seized what remains of the Earth, isolated of everything and made it the oasis of perfection. In this year of 2218, to live in the Domes City is a source of unlimited enjoyments. The slightest of the wishes materializes there, the dream becomes reality and the youth is eternal.
No subject belonging to this perfect community is authorized to live beyond thirty years. And so, in the day of this ultimate anniversary, in yard of the "Carrousel Ceremony ", he will disappear in a big regenerative sleep to be reborn in another body. Perpetual life which will return the subject of a new time of thirty years of serene existence. But there are also, in the heart of the Domes City, those who wonder, the thinkers, the septics which speak about a refuge in the vast stranger which extends outside, a secret place that they call SANCTUARY.
The Film
Realized by Saul David in 1976 from the adaptation of William F.Nolan and George Clayton book , Logan's Run had an enormous success in the USA and received an Award for his special effects and included several stars like Michael York for the Staring, Richard Jordan ( Dirk Pitt in " Raised the Titanic " ), Peter Ustinov, Farrah Fawcett-Majors and Jenny Agutter (Jessica) who was not seen a lot, after. VHS, Laser disc and DVD Editions was availables in different countries ( USA, Japan) but regrettably, in France as usual, there is not needed to wait a long time to get itself a copy ! I possess a DVD that I bought in the USA some years ago, in zone 1 and translated in French, rare things now. So, thanks to ours " good European agreements " of our leaders and the economic war with United States, it becomes difficult to find one and more, translated !! What Bullshit these zones ! A true swindle!
A remake should have been make in summer, 2007 ! I only hope that this new Logan's Run will not be "missed" because since some years, remakes classics movies are totally odious!
The TV Serie
The 14 TV series episodes have had more success in France ( but made a flop in the USA ) and all the amateurs have a great memory of it. It was diffused for the first time on "Antenne 2", a French channel, in1978. The serie resumes very well the context of the film and the " fugitives " are always in search of the " Sanctuary ". But there, Logan 6 becomes Logan 23, Francis 7 as Francis 14 and in last episode, we stay over his end because the trio Logan / Rem / Jessica does not make understand to the televiewers and does not notice that finally, the "Sanctuary" is the outside world. For the collectors: untraceable serie in videos!!
A perfect world !
What a happiness to live at the Logan's Run time. You eat, drink, participate in the most unavowable pleasures! Everything is offered to you in profusion and all this, without working. Up to the age of thirty years, deadline of life which will bring you to participate honorably in the " Carrousel " ceremony in which you will be reborn of your ashes and according to the faith, in a new body for a new period of thirty years et cetera ! It is a perfect world but so unfortunately, if you ask too many questions and doubt seriously of the revival and want to leave, you become a thinker, a outlaw of the Domes City, a dangerous human being and thus a " Fugitive "!! It will be necessary to run fast to escape at the formidables "Sandmans", like an inflexible and austere police without anybody feelings or pity, who will be satisfied only when they will kill you and burn you with their "Flameguns".
The DS Flamegun model.
I began by getting me a pistol plan on the net. ( We find rather easily sights, pictures and plans of the flamegun on different sites concerning this subject.) My flamegun Is not functional, materials were easy to find in spite of littles worries that I had about the diameters of three tubes composing the barrel. Yes, the measures of my plan are in inches, I fell on half-quotations after my calculations of conversion. I had to make it with PVC tubes which availables in the business stores, approaching me at most of the studio model. So, my flamegun is not exact, exact !! Sorry for the purists !! Three PVC tubes are cut in the required dimensions making the barrel gun ( I extended the barrel some few centimetres because between the plan and pictures studio model, there are differences). The head of gun is hollowed out by four slots following diagonals beforehand drawn. I fit together the parts with centring pegs with fast epoxy glue. The plexiglass was used to make the grip, trigger, the triangular part for the holster belt storage, the detail piece under the barrel. In the back of the gun, I placed a functional toothed wheel which I have recuparate in my big box of plastic details. This detail is in fact a PVC screw-top serving originally for contact lenses storage box. Different details were made in metal thread stalks and Nuts. All the model received a spray putty coat , then sanded with papers n° 400, 600, 1000, to give it the smoothest possible aspect. The general painting is black (Spray).
